Christian Genest Recipient of the John L. Synge Award

The Royal Society of Canada (RSC) announced that Christian Genest, former CANSSI Board Member and a professor at McGill University, is the ninth recipient of the John L. Synge Award. This distinction, created in 1986, is given by the RSC on an irregular basis for outstanding research in the mathematical sciences.

Christian Genest is a world-renowned statistician whose seminal work in copula modelling, extreme-value theory, and collaborative decision-making led to a transformative understanding of the impact of dependence in risk assessment. He designed multivariate data analysis and nonparametric inference methods which improved risk management practices in insurance, finance, hydrology, and other fields. His contributions have earned him several awards, including a research prize from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
