Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Program

CANSSI’s Commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI)

The creation of an equitable, diverse and inclusive Canadian statistical sciences research enterprise is necessary for CANSSI to achieve its mission and for the statistical sciences community to respond effectively to local, national and global challenges. CANSSI actively pursues equity, diversity and inclusion through CANSSI EDI. CANSSI policies, programs, governance, and activities are evaluated on their adherence to the goal of increasing and supporting diversity by giving equitable access to opportunities, supporting equitable and inclusive participation, and creating conditions for success for all participants, which includes feeling valued and included. For CANSSI’s purposes, diversity is defined as differences in race, colour, place of origin, religion, immigrant and newcomer status, ethnic origin, ability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, economic condition, and age.

  • Improving accessibility of and supporting equitable access to CANSSI support
  • Increasing equitable and inclusive participation in CANSSI programs
  • Offering informational, educational and training activities related to EDI to the Canadian statistical sciences community and integrating them into CANSSI programs

The IDEA Committee

The Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) Committee’s remit is to develop and evaluate EDI activities, identify barriers to accessing and successfully participating in scientific programs, and help improve inclusivity of scientific programs. The IDEA committee will plan an annual program of EDI activities, which will include coordinating training activities designed and offered by EDI specialists.
