Numerical Analysis and Approximation Theory meets Data Science (18w5172)

April 22, 2018 - April 27, 2018

To enable an atmosphere comprising of senior international experts and early career scientists at the intersection of numerical analysis, approximation theory and data science. The primary theoretical areas presented will involve recovery of smooth multidimensional functions, classification and segmentation methods, as well as inverse problems and imaging, with applications to neutron, tomographic and magnetic resonance image reconstruction, uncertainty quantification (UQ), as well as optimal control and parameter identification. As such, this workshop will facilitate the development of new mathematical tools for understanding next-generation computational methods for approximating and analyzing systems having a certain set of constraints, from a limited amount of sparse and noisy scientific data.
