The Canadian Statistical Sciences Institute (CANSSI) is Canada’s catalyst for discovery and innovation in statistical sciences and for advances in collaborative research and training. CANSSI programs support the pursuit of cutting-edge collaborative research involving statistical sciences along with the communication and application of the results to science, engineering, and society.

CANSSI is supported under the Discovery Institutes Support program of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.

Where to Find Us

The national headquarters of CANSSI is hosted at Simon Fraser University (SFU) in Burnaby, British Columbia.

CANSSI and SFU share a commitment to research excellence and innovation and to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion. Together, our partnership supports collaborations between researchers, partners and communities across the country to pursue data-driven science, policy, and decision-making.

Our Purpose

Mission

CANSSI is the national institute that advances the development, application, and communication of cutting-edge statistical sciences research and training. CANSSI builds multi-disciplinary collaborations with leadership in statistical science. We enable new linkages between statistical sciences and research in academia, industry and government.

Vision

We strive to be Canada’s catalyst for discovery and innovation in the statistical sciences and to advance collaborative research and training.

By statistical sciences, we include actuarial science, biostatistics, statistics, and inferential data science.

Our Commitment to Equity, Diversity & Inclusion

Supporting the creation of a diverse, inclusive, and equitable research environment is essential for CANSSI’s mission and for the Canadian statistical sciences community to respond effectively to local, national and global challenges.

We work to create conditions for success for all participants through our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Program.

Welcome from the Scientific Director

“With the tremendous growth in available data, the demand for statistical and data science research grows daily in many fields. Building this demand into strong interdisciplinary collaborations takes effort, imagination and resources.

“CANSSI supports a variety of programs designed to build multi-disciplinary research collaborations with a strong statistical sciences foundation. We aim to create new linkages between research in academia, industry and government.

“The participation of students and postdoctoral fellows is a vital part of CANSSI programs, and we take pride in training the next generation of statisticians and data scientists. If you’re interested in taking part in CANSSI programs, there are many ways to get involved.

“Get in touch to learn more. We look forward to hearing from you!”
