The Canadian Statistical Sciences Institute (CANSSI) seeks nominations and applications for the position of Deputy Director for a four-year term beginning July 1, 2015.
Launched in November 2012, CANSSI is a national virtual institute offering the leadership and infrastructure necessary to increase and further develop statistical sciences research in Canada and promote the discipline. CANSSI seeks to develop all areas of the statistical sciences, including interdisciplinary research where statistical innovation is essential to the development of other disciplines. Through national networks of researchers, CANSSI aims to tackle the big research questions in statistics of importance to science and the public interest, and to establish links with other disciplines and organizations that are heavy users and producers of data. The three Canadian mathematical sciences institutes — the Centre de recherches mathématiques (CRM), the Fields Institute and the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS) – are committed to working with the statistical sciences community on the CANSSI initiative, with the inclusion of funding for CANSSI projects and activities in their current cycle of NSERC grants. CANSSI seeks to increase the recognition of the importance of the statistical sciences in Canada.
Candidates should be researchers in the statistical sciences with strong interpersonal and administrative skills, abundant energy, and an interest in developing CANSSI and raising statistical sciences research in Canada to new levels.
A letter of application addressing the qualities above, together with a CV and names of three references, should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org. Expressions of interest or nominations may also be sent to this address.
Applications or nominations will be considered until the position is filled. The Deputy Director Search Committee will begin assessing submissions April 15, 2015.
This is anticipated to be a half-time position. It is likely that the position will be held by someone with an academic appointment at a Canadian university. Applications are encouraged from women and members of underrepresented groups.
