The Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science at Simon Fraser University invites applications for a full-time position as Lecturer, beginning September 1, 2017. We specifically seek candidates with an active interest and demonstrated effectiveness in teaching Statistics at an undergraduate level, especially those who have enthusiasm for pedagogical innovation such as exploring techniques and technologies for improving teaching.
The primary responsibilities of the position include
• teaching courses covering a range of topics in Statistics and, optionally, Actuarial Science;
• course preparation;
• curriculum development, at both the course and program level;
• TA training and supervision;
• outreach activities;
• additional department or university service as assigned by the Department Chair.
The Lecturer will be based on the Burnaby Campus, but may be assigned to teach courses at any SFU Campus (Burnaby, Surrey, Vancouver).
Candidates for this position must have a PhD in Statistics, Actuarial Science, or a related field at the time of appointment, and experience teaching at the university level. Exceptionally, a candidate with a Master’s in one of these fields and strong experience with teaching may be considered. Excellent communication skills are required. Comfort with new technologies and statistical computing packages is essential.
